DTF Transfer Pressing Instructions

Pressing DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers requires careful attention to detail to ensure that your designs adhere properly to your desired surfaces. Here are the step-by-step instructions for pressing DTF transfers effectively:

1. Prepare Your Workspace:

  • Ensure that your work area is clean and free of debris that could interfere with the transfer process.
  • Have all necessary equipment ready, including a heat press machine, DTF transfer film, and the material you want to print on (e.g., fabric, garment).

2. Set Heat Press Machine:

  • Turn on your heat press machine and set the temperature and pressure settings according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Typically, DTF transfers require a temperature of around 300°F (149°C) and medium to high pressure.

3. Position the DTF Transfer:

  • Lay your DTF transfer film with the printed side facing down onto the material you want to print on. Ensure that the design is correctly aligned.

4. Protective Layer:

  • Place a sheet of parchment paper or a Teflon sheet on top of the DTF transfer to protect it from direct contact with the heat press.

5. Heat Pressing:

  • Carefully lower the heat press machine's top platen onto the transfer with even pressure.
  • Follow the recommended pressing time, usually around 13-15 seconds. This can vary based on the specific DTF transfer film and material used, so consult the manufacturer's guidelines for precise timing.
  • Ensure the temperature and pressure are consistent throughout the pressing process.
  • Heavy pressure is recommended for DTF Transfers.

6. Cooling:

  • After the pressing time is complete, carefully lift the top platen and remove the protective sheet.
  • (COLD PEEL) Allow the material to cool before handling it. Cooling typically takes around 30 seconds to a minute.
  • (HOT PEEL) Allow the material to cool a few seconds before proceeding to next step.

7. Peel the Transfer Film:

  • Gently peel the DTF transfer film from the material, starting from one corner. If the design appears to be sticking to the film, stop and press it again for a few more seconds before attempting to peel it off.

8. 2nd Press:

  • Once the transfer film is removed, do a second press.  Place a sheet of parchment paper or a Teflon sheet on top of the design and press for another 7-8 seconds.

9. Post-Pressing:

  • Once the transfer film is removed, it's essential to let the printed material cool completely before folding, stacking, or wearing it. This allows the ink to fully set.  Do not wash for 48hrs.

Please note that the specific instructions may vary depending on the brand of DTF transfer film and the material you're printing on. Always refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for your particular DTF transfer product for the most accurate pressing instructions.

Following these pressing instructions carefully will help you achieve the best results with DTF transfers, ensuring that your designs are vibrant, durable, and long-lasting.
